The adolescent patient is often inadequately provided for within current health care systems as they are generally considered to be a healthy population group1. Studies report that they are often infrequent users of primary health care services such as general practitioners (GPs)2,3. In order to improve health care for this group, adolescent perspectives of health care services should be considered and reviewed. This thematic literature review examines 15 articles to identify adolescents’ perceptions of accessing general practice and other health care services. The aim of this literature review is to identify areas of concern that prevent adolescents accessing health care services and to establish which factors have a negative effect on their general practice experience.
